Pool - The Leonard Cheshire pool is used exclusively for Turtle Tots classes. The pool is around 33-36 degrees and is lovely and warm like a bath. Perfect for a first introduction to the water. They have a communal changing room for everyone to change in. This space can be tight, please can we limit spectators to 1 extra person per baby. We are allowed access to the pool 15mins before the start of our first classes but not before, so please don't arrive any earlier. We have 15mins at the end of our last lesson for changing. Please try to get changed as quickly as possible so the next group can access the pool. Please be aware Leonard Cheshire is a disabled residential home and people live here. Easy to travel to from - Cheltenham, Gloucester, Painswick, Andoversford.
Parking: We are NOT allowed to park in the care home car park. There are limited spaces for those living and working at the home and so please don't park in the car park. There is on street parking nearby so please park your cars on the roads and walk to the pool. Charlton Lane & Old Bath Rd have on street parking. Please leave enough time to find a space and walk to the pool. To find the pool walk through the entrance and then follow the road around to the right and you will find the hydrotherapy building. Please keep to the disabled pathway around to the building and DO NOT walk across the car park, this is to reduce potential accidents from reversing disabled buses. Please report to reception where you’ll be asked to sign in. Please remember to sign out when you leave. Buggies/car seats - Please note there is no indoor space for pushchairs/prams. These can be left outside so make sure you bring a rain cover in case it rains while in the pool. Carseats can be brought into the changing rooms. Please don't obstruct walkways outside as disabled students live at the home and need access to the facilities every day of the week.
Changing rooms: The changing room space at the pool is limited. The changing space is communal and changing curtains are in place for the female changing area. Males must change in the toilet and then come directly poolside. Please use the Green Turtle Tots bags for your clothing and valuables and bring it poolside. This allows the classes after yours to have a clear changing room to change in. Health & Safety- Please ensure you supervise your child at all times. There is swimming equipment located around the pool and it is property of Leonard Cheshire. Please do not use any equipment. Leonard Cheshire has anti slip flooring, however the poolside & Changing rooms can become wet and slippery. Please do not use the benches or disabled beds in the main changing room to change your baby. We advise you bring a changing mat and change your baby on the floor. A few change mats for everyone to use will be provided. Leonard Cheshire is a disabled residential home. Please do not use any of the disabled equipment in the changing rooms or poolside such as disabled beds, hoists, lifts and chairs. Shoes - Please TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF as you enter the changing room, there are pool shoes available at the entrance - this keeps the changing room and pool area nice and clean for everyones enjoyment. Nappies - Yellow bins are provided for the disposal of nappies in the toilet - please do not put nappies in any other bin.
What to wear - The pool is lovely and warm and so just a swim nappy & neonappy over the top is all that is needed for your child. Toddlers must be fully potty trained for 6 months before going without a swim nappy & neonappy.
